#Pontoon or #barge or #floating platform is one of the best solution for costly traditional pump houses. The traditional method used for installation of pumps for irrigation system is to set up a pump house in civil construction on the bank of river or dam. And this method is widely used by all government sectors and in private sector also. If we see the tenure of any pump house project it is very very long. Its expenses, manpower, material of construction, transportation and all such things stimulate us to think over its alternative.
I think this concept of pontoon first developed by our farmers for irrigation purpose. As it is said that need gives birth to innovation, our farmers on the canal side or on river banks experimented small pump houses for #dewatering for #irrigation. Which now is used for bigger pumps.
The concept of pontoon or barge is simple, but its design becomes important for large costly pumps.
Recently we have installed one pontoon set for two submersible pumps of capacity 650m3/hr and weighing 2500kg. Perfect design and manufacturing process makes our pontoon 100% successful at Waghur dam, Jalgaon, Maharashtra, India. Our 50% submergence was maintained for perfect stability of pontoon.
As the load of pumps and pontoon was approx 18Ton its was very risky job of installation and commissioning. But our designer makes it simple to divide the Pontoon and make it easy to assemble it in water. we can see now the Pontoon is floating on water with perfect stability.
This project was for irrigation department of government of Maharashtra. And it was first ever project in Maharashtra by the department.
Here are some snaps of project.
